This course provides South Carolina insurance agents with a practical, up-to-date understanding of long-term care planning in today’s regulatory and economic environment. Agents will examine current cost-of-care data, evolving care settings, policy design, and industry trends, along with the critical role of the South Carolina Long-Term Care Partnership Program. Emphasis is placed on compliance, suitability, consumer protection, and how long-term care insurance integrates with Medicaid and other funding sources. The course equips agents to better identify client risks, explain coverage options clearly, and address long-term care planning responsibly and confidently.

This course is approved by the South Carolina Department of Insurance for Continuing Insurance Education Credit.

Course Objectives

  1. Describe current long-term care risks and planning considerations in South Carolina, including cost-of-care data, utilization trends, care settings, and the financial impact of long-term care events on individuals and families.
  2. Explain South Carolina long-term care insurance regulatory and compliance requirements, including producer training obligations, suitability standards, required disclosures, and insurer oversight responsibilities.
  1. Identify and explain long-term care insurance policy provisions and benefit triggers, including activities of daily living, cognitive impairment, elimination periods, benefit periods, inflation protection, nonforfeiture provisions, and covered services.
  2. Analyze funding options and public program interaction for long-term care, including private pay strategies, long-term care insurance, hybrid products, family caregiving, home equity options, and the South Carolina Long-Term Care Partnership Program’s effect on Medicaid eligibility and asset protection.

Registration

Cancellations and Rescheduling

Brewer Insurance School reserves the right to reschedule or cancel a class if the class has less than 20 students enrolled.

Certificates

Approved Sponsors of approved courses are required to provide a certification of course completion to each individual who successfully completes an approved course within thirty (30) business days after the course is completed. Verification of the accuracy of the certification provided by the approved sponsor remains the responsibility of the producer. (SC Reg 69-50)
